I accounted for everything related to the vehicles for all of 2016 (like I do every year). Came out to an average of $1,461 per month. Anyone else check out their annual spending?

If that includes gas, I kind of hate you right now.

I don’t know what my automotive expenses for the year are. If I calculated it all, including gas, I’d probably crawl into a fetal position and cry myself to sleep. I know I’m close to the $3000 mark on my Jag in terms of repairs, but that included a full overhaul of the suspension including two new hub assemblies, so I expect this year to be a lot lower. I probably need new rear shocks, and I definitely need to replace the transmission and differential fluids.

I’m always floored by how much more you actually spend than you think on cars. Seriously, it’s crazy that no one talks about how much cars actually cost to run yearly after gas, insurance, registration/tax, maintenance, tickets/fines, tolls, parking, payments, interest, cleaning, repairs, upgrades...*shudders*

Don’t forget that I’ve been watching and working on this stuff for four years and my work vehicle gets free gas.

Over the last two years of Miata ownership I just hit $10,000 in parts cost with a custom roll cage that’s on the way. $80 a month for gas, insurance is $50 a month and one $500 ticket (when someone hands you keys to a Cts-v and says go fast, you go fast). Plus around $600 in consumables a year.

So $620 per month if my math is right

I’m gonna guess around $600/month. Car payment, insurance, gas, oil changes, and a new battery for the Fiat, plus buying the Toyota. Didn’t buy tires or repair anything else this year which just means the 2017 average will be higher.

I have all the expenses written down but I haven’t calculated it out to a monthly total - I can take a quick swag: Payments on the two cars are $590/mo, gas averaged around $300/mo, insurance is $96/mo, and I spent $1000 in maintenance total. I’ll ignore the wheels and tires I bought on CL because that wasn’t a real requirement. So $1070/mo. Damn, you’re right that’s a lot of money.

I need to get all these together, but I know my last car was under $100/month for the 8 years I owned it.

Oh man, I didn’t even think of insurance and tolls. Not to mention my current DMV surcharge for doing a very bad thing.

I always tell myself that dailying an old Jag is a smart financial decision, since I enjoy it as much as I would any new car with a monthly payment, and I don’t want to ruin that by actually running the numbers.

The one on the left might cost $950/month for everything. The one on the right, around $220/month for everything (I rent a garage for it, which is half that figure). That being said, I am over 35 for cheaper insurance, don’t have a huge commute, etc.

1400 For a Jag and a Korean Bentley impersonator? Not bad @ all but depreciation on a Jag would kill me I think.

I plug all my expenses into an app (Fuelio) and for all of 2016 I got...$AUD 634/month (so $479 in USD) and that includes fuel, insurane, track days. Still a lot of money thinking of it. But its a daily turbo BMW so its actually not bad (2008 135i). It helps I do most of the stuff myself. Most of the cost was mods .. (downpipes, side skirts, wheels, summer tires, MHD tuner etc)

the car was paid in full, so this is probably why its a lot lower than the guys paying installments

I keep track of all my spending in an excel spreadsheet and use a separate category for automotive. But my automotive costs are stupid low right now because of my vehicle ownership status. I’m pretty sure a good chunk of my expenses last year was replacing the Previa battery because idiot me left the door open for a week.

I know I spent almost $7k on parts and services for the ‘Vette.... add on $1100 for 6 months of insurance, $1200 on sales tax (Thanks Trudeau) and a bunch for gas at $1.35+/litre

I’m at $450/ month for my three vehicles. Gas, insurance, tags, repair parts.
